Bar Stool Hero

The day was long and the night was cold

I stepped in the bar for a pint

The lights were low, juke box slow

Crowd gone home for the night

Didn’t see her at first slidin in tight

She’s lookin at me head to toe

She flashed a grin, asked my name

Said babe ya don’t wanna know

Damaged goods I said and looked ahead

Ain’t nothing left to give

A two-bit room, an old guitar

And a life time to relive

The road ahead is long my friend

And love’s a young man’s game

Don’t waste your love and precious time

On a horse too wild to tame

Seems that no one gives a damn about

The things that I hold dear

An easy mind, love that’s kind

And a promise without fear

Old Neal was right in sixty six

Got me a brand new plan

Till I find a love that’s true

I’ll stay a lonely man
