Abel’s Blood

Tucked away in beauty’s billow
Far above the knotted fray
Lilting voices
Soft whispers
Cooled by gentle tongue
Of one accord
Weep for those below
Those who lust for power’s voice
Gale winds of hateful force
Drunk with Odin’s wanderlust
Bathed in Abel’s blood

Tucked away in forest green
Dwell those who volunteer
Hearts and minds
Loving hands
Fueled by caring soul
Of one accord
Weep for those above
Those who rage on rocky cliff
On precipice of doom
Thunderous claps of clanging steel
Rivers rife with blood

Trapped in lands of war’s unrest
Dwell those who have no choice
Lilting voices
Soft whispers
Cooled by gentle tongue
Of one accord
Weep for those lost
Those sacrificed to power’s voice
Blown as seeds in hateful winds
Innocent victims of Odin’s wrath
Laid restless in sallow ground

The lyrics of Michael Franti ring in my ears as I scribble these words:

Please tell me the reason
Behind the colors that you fly
Love just one nation
And the whole world we divide
You say you’re ‘sorry’
Say, ‘there is no other choice’
But god bless the people them
Who cannot raise their voice

We can chase down all our enemies
Bring them to their knees
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peace
Whoa we may even find a solution
To hunger and disease
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peace

Violence brings one thing
More, more of the same
Military madness
The smell of flesh and burning pain
So I sing out to the masses
Stand up if you’re still sane!
To all of us gone crazy
I sing this one refrain

We can chase down all our enemies
Bring them to their knees
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peace
Whoa we may even find a solution
To hunger and disease
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can’t bomb it into peace…

Lyrics by Michael Franti

Be a volunteer for peace. It doesn’t have to be a labor intensive or time consuming process. Live your life in a peaceful manner. Love other people. Do not raise your voice in support of hate, or war, or revenge. Live simply. Live and let live. Teach the message of peace to your children. Imagine a world where we all can live. Spread your hope. Think about it.
Peace and Love,
Phil

  1. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful writing. 🙂 The time of Socrates seem ancient from perspective of physical time but the modern time is facing same conflicts and maladies again. On this note i remember a quote of him-“Until the Philosophers become the Kings/Rulers of the State, Or the ‘Kings’ of the State are enriched with the spirit and power of Philosophy – That is to say until Power and Wisdom are combined in One man… no city will be liberated from it’s current misgovernment, nor will the human race attain Well-being. “
