A Cosmic Test?

I’m one of those people who dream in color.  I grew up thinking I was special because of these vivid nocturnal images, only to later discover that most people dream in color.  Apparently, a lot of folk also share common dreams about such things as flying, forgetting about a class until exam time, being naked in public, etc…  So ok, I’m not so unique; but do others dream in single words?

My recurring dream last night was limited to a single word: bifurcation.  The word appeared as a written image in bold print and I repeated the word as some sort of mantra for what seemed like hours, only to wake up and realize I did not have a clue what the word meant.  I must have heard of, or had an awareness of the word; however, for the life of me, I can’t remember where or why.  I awoke thinking my wonderfully creative brain had created a new word to which I could attach an equally creative definition.  No such luck there.  Google informed me the word had many definitions as well as theoretical applications in disciplines like math and sociology. In the rare event of a test, here is one definition:

verb (used with or without object), bifurcated, bifurcating.

So, today’s waking hours will be spent pondering where I may have heard the word, and why the hell did I waste my valuable dream time staring at the word in bold block letters? Is this some type of divine omen delivered by a cheeky god who likes to test my interpretive skills?  I certainly would have preferred my usual pornographic images in living color. Hell, I would have even preferred the old stand by: showing up for a final exam in my underwear. But nooo… Now I’m stuck with this stupid word rattling in my head all day like a bad Dan Fogleberg song.

Am I approaching a divergent fork in my life’s path?

Am I going to experience some type of metaphorical mitosis?

I really don’t know, but now I’ve also got a bad Dan Fogleberg song stuck in my head.  Fuck!  I’m going back to bed.
