Shame on You Mackenzie Dawson

Today, NY Post Contributing Editor, Mackenzie Dawson is basking in the love glow from millions of adoring moms following her tired little”working mom’s open letter”.  Never mind the fact that the whole “open letter” concept is both cheap and hackneyed, the piece was simply self-serving trash created at the expense of another human being.  While Dawson is wallowing in her glory as the new voice of “everymom”, I’m quite certain she has little or no regard to the damage she has done to her target.  A real journalist, upon discovering a potentially damaging story, would want to find out more on the context of the questionable statements.  Instead, Dawson chose to exploit, or “ride the heat” of an E-News story that carries about as much journalistic clout as the National Enquirer.

Fast forward to today, as I flip through the TV channels and one of the MSNBC hacks is reporting on Ms. Dawson’s Post article as a preface to their topic of conversation:  the plight of single moms in America.  In three days, a celebrity’s quotes reported by E-freaking-news have provided a platform for journalistic vultures everywhere to promote their agenda of choice.  The reputation of a human being, a loving mother, guilty of nothing more than talent and wealth, lies in the wake of this shit-storm and nobody gives a damn.  Something’s wrong with this picture.

Shame on you Mackenzie Dawson for writing such cheap crap and shame on us for creating the market for it.  And, finally, shame on me, for lacking the self control to avoid this topic altogether.  I’ll try to do better in the future.
